Submission filename conventions:

Name your file like so:

Suppose you are The John Benjamin Band and the title is "Look Good In Black":

johnbenjaminband_lgib.mp3

That's your band name, all lower case, all one word, not including "the", followed by an underscore, and then an acronym made of the words in the title you're submitting for (unless the title is a single word, in which case, use the whole word). If there is an "and" in your band name, replace it with "+".

Additionally, here are some highlights from the faq which specifically address the submission process:

How do I enter the fight?
  1. Write a song based on the title.
  2. Make an MP3 file out of your song.
  3. Compose a new email message.
    • Subject: This Week's Title
    • Body: Your Band Name Here
  4. Attach your MP3 file to the message.
  5. Send the message to fightmaster@songfight.org
My submission requires special handling. Does someone actually ready the emails, or are they processed automatically?
The emails are read skimmed. However, any special requests are handled at the whim of FightMaster. If it happens, rejoice, if it doesn't, raise an impotent fist to the sky.

I am famous. Do I have to give you my real name?
No. You can use any name you want. Use a different name each week. We don't care. Why would we? Just use a little judgement and don't pretend you are somebody you aren't. It's fine to pretend you aren't somebody you are.

How long after the deadline are the entries posted?
This depends upon how many entries there are, how many people sent their songs in never-before-heard-of-formats, and how busy the fightmaster is that week. Often, however, the songs are posted within a day or two of the deadline, or even sooner in rare cases. At this time, the winner of the current fight is posted and the new title is announced, as well.

What should I do if my song doesn't show up when the songlist is updated?
Visit the Q.A. thread on the Song Fight message board and post a notice that your song is missing. State your band name, if you would, please, so that we can figure out which song is missing.

My email sucks. Is there another way to enter?
With increased attachment-size limits at Hotmail and Yahoo, this should not be an issue. If your email service sucks, get a new email service-- even if only to send in your Song Fight entries.

Can I enter more than one song?
You can, but why? You've only got a week or so. Why not put all of your effort into making one entry as good as you can make it? There is no award for most entries in a week.

If I submit a song here, how can I keep other people from stealing it?
Enter at your own risk. By submitting your song, you are authorizing us to post it permanently on a publicly viewable website where it can be downloaded by anyone.
